Editor's Reviews

Overview:

SeaMonkey—formerly known as Mozilla Application Suite—is one-stop-shop Internet application suite. It includes a Web browser, mail and newsgroups client, HTML editor, Web development tools, and chat client.

Pros:

SeaMonkey’s obvious advantage is that all your basic Internet functions are in one neat package. Not only is it convenient, but the level of integration between the various applications is great. SeaMonkey is truly the only Internet application suite you’ll ever need!

SeaMonkey is a community driven project, so the applications all have the latest and greatest features that you’ll be looking for. Developers, marketers, and testers have contributed to developing the top Internet suite around, and it truly shows.

SeaMonkey is a fast and stable Internet application suite. It provides browsing capabilities that rival today’s top browsers, has an email and chat client that integrates with your contacts seamlessly, and a WYSIWIG editor that helps you built basic websites. Additionally, it is built on Mozilla’s source code and benefits from its security functions.

On top of all this great functionality, SeaMonkey is easy to install and its features are easy to access. There are also a number of customizations you can make and add ons you can download that can make your Internet browsing experience truly your own!

Cons:

SeaMonkey is a bit lacking in the “looks” department. It’s not going to be the slick designs you’re used to seeing with today’s browsers and email clients. But don’t let this deter you. Even though the developers have not put a lot of work into the aesthetics, SeaMonkey performs just as well (if not better) than most of its competition.

Another knock on SeaMonkey is the fact that a good number of the add ons that Firefox offers is not compatible with SeaMonkey. Adblock Plus and a few other basics are spared, but it can be frustrating to download an add on or plugin to not have it work.

Final Verdict:

SeaMonkey isn’t the prettiest Internet app suite on the block, but it sure does get the job done! Don’t be fooled by its prehistoric design—what it lacks in design is made up for in SeaMonkey’s amazing capabilities. SeaMonkey makes your Internet browsing experience great!

Product Description

The SeaMonkey project is a community effort to develop the SeaMonkey all-in-one internet application suite. Such a software suite was previously made popular by Netscape and Mozilla, and the SeaMonkey project continues to develop and deliver high-quality updates as well as new features and improvements to this concept. Containing an Internet browser, email & newsgroup client, HTML editor, IRC chat and web development tools, SeaMonkey is sure to appeal to advanced users, web developers and corporate users. SeaMonkey is built on the open source Mozilla Gecko engine, the same code which underlies the highly successful siblings Firefox and Thunderbird. SeaMonkey benefits from the cross-fertilization with these other projects, by gaining (and contributing) new features and the ongoing security updates which are a modern necessity. The Mozilla Foundation provides hosting and legal backing for the SeaMonkey Project.
